Stand Out with A Peplum Top
CLOSET FAVORITE
One of my all timer favorite items in my closet is a peplum top. Especially this peplum top (it's from H&M). It has a super structured flare making it an instant statement piece. The creamy ivory but oh so nearly shade of white goes well with any skin tone. I've had it for several years (so unfortunately it is unavailable today) and it has always been a go-to piece for corporate cocktail parties or swanky lounges.
WHY I LOVE IT
You've heard of cheat days right? Well, this is my cheat top.
The main reason that this peplum top is a favorite is the illusion it gives of being slightly curvier than I actually am. Even though I've always wanted a smaller, defined waist but I have never been able to achieve one to my satisfaction. My body just insists on being straight. BUT because the top's defined flair and larger proportions, it helps to accentuate my waist. Instant smaller waist success! No extra exercising or skipping ice cream (or fries).
TIPS TO PICK THE RIGHT PEPLUM TOP
If your goal is to cheating a smaller waist then see my tips below. Keep in mind that everyone has a different body type so there isn't a one size fits all. It may look great on the model but this is a trial and error process.
Select a top that is fitted (the portion above the flair). Fabric being close to your body helps outline your shape.
Pick a fabric that is slightly stiff so the flair holds its shape at all times.
See where the flair starts on YOUR body. The flair should start at or very close to your natural waist. Avoid tops where the flair starts at the hip.
Keep in mind the length of the flair. For this particular top, the flair (waist seam to end of the peplum) measures approx. 7 inches. If you have a long torso, you'll want a longer flair.
